Barren, Green, and Nolin River dams operating as intended, providing flood damage reduction

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District is actively monitoring water levels at reservoirs in the Green River Area, including Barren River, Green River, and Nolin River lakes, following significant rainfall over the last 48-72 hours. Each of the reservoirs still have flood storage capacity to manage additional runoff and reduce downstream flooding risks. These reservoirs are part of a broader system managed by USACE, designed to temporarily store excess water from heavy rainfall until river and stream levels recede, preventing further downstream flooding.

Fire damages vacant former Nolin River Lake Project Office

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District was notified of an early morning fire at Nolin River Lake in Bee Spring, Kentucky, which caused extensive damage to the vacant former Nolin River Lake Project Office located by the Control Tower. There are no injuries reported and all personnel are accounted for. The nearby control tower, dam and critical facilities did not sustain damaged during the fire. The dam continues to operate as designed. There is no anticipated impact to operations.

USACE announces upcoming maintenance activities at Nolin River Lake

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District will be conducting maintenance activities this summer at Nolin River Lake in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky, which could impact traffic patterns and public access to the tailwater area. Visitors may see construction crews on site performing this work during the summer months as these activities are scheduled to begin in May and last through fall 2024.

Louisville District installs fee machines at Green River Area lakes

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District has installed automated fee machines at many of the recreation areas in the Green River Area, which includes Rough, Nolin, Barren, and Green River Lakes in Kentucky. Starting April 1, 2021, these areas will no longer accept cash as payment. The automated fee machines accept payments for day-use passes and/or annual passes by credit card only.
