  • USACE to host Site Visit for final contract of Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is hosting a Pre-Proposal Meeting and Site Visit on February 20, 2025, at 10:00 AM EST at Chickamauga Lock in Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the final construction contract of the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project. This event will allow potential prime and subcontractors to tour the project site, understand the scope of work, and explore opportunities for small business participation in areas such as electrical work, welding, and material movement. The final contract includes completing the new lock, removing the cofferdam, decommissioning the existing lock, and restoring the surrounding site—significantly improving navigation efficiency on the Tennessee River.
  • Chickamauga Lock replacement project reaches milestone with delivery of miter gates

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, in partnership with Shimmick Construction and the Tennessee Valley Authority, is advancing the Chickamauga Lock replacement project with the delivery of 14 miter gate components from Dec. 5-23. These gates, designed to improve efficiency and reliability, mark a critical milestone in the construction of the new 110-foot by 600-foot navigation lock. Once completed, the new lock will significantly enhance capacity, accommodating up to nine jumbo barges at a time, boosting efficiency by 80% for commercial vessels on the Tennessee River.
  • Construction contract awarded for new Louisville VA Hospital

    The Department of Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District, will build a new 104 bed, full-service hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. An $840 million contract was awarded to Walsh-Turner Joint Venture II headquartered in Chicago, Illinois on Aug. 17, 2021 to construct the new hospital, which will replace the existing Robley Rex VA Medical Center.
