  • Corps hosts public meeting, comment period for Mahoning River Basin water control manuals

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is hosting a public meeting and public comment period to collect feedback on proposed updates to the water control manuals for Berlin Lake, Michael J. Kirwan Dam and Reservoir, and Mosquito Creek Lake within the Mahoning River Basin.
  • NR 22-10: Cordell Hull Lake reopens swim beaches

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 26, 2022) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that Defeated Creek Day Use Swim Beach in Carthage, Tennessee, as well as Roaring River Swim Beach in Gainesboro, Tennessee, on Cordell Hull Lake have reopened as water conditions have returned to acceptable levels.
  • Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area Welcomes Visitors for 2022 Season

    The William B. Hoyt II Visitor Center at the Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area opens to the public Sunday, May 1 for its 2022 visitor season. This year marks the return of inside-the-dam tours after a two-year hiatus, the first full season of online tour reservations, and 70 years since construction of the dam was completed. Located on the Genesee River next to Letchworth State Park, the dam provides flood protection to downstream communities, including the City of Rochester, as well as a place to enjoy nature and outdoor recreation in its day-use park.

  • Nashville District names Bogema Employee of the Month for February 2022

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 25, 2022) – David Bogema, hydraulic engineer in the Water Management Section’s Hydrology and Hydraulics Branch, is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Employee of the Month for February 2022. He is recognized primarily for leading the water management efforts for the Wolf Creek and Center Hill gates Replacement Projects.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Leasing Tugboat to Serve Great Lakes for Next Five Years

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District awarded a $8.4 million contract to Cleveland-based Great Lakes Towing on April 20 for lease of the tugboat Don Raul to serve on the Great Lakes. The boat will primarily be used on Lake Erie between Buffalo, N.Y. and Toledo, Ohio, but may serve all the way to Massena, N.Y., towing the Buffalo District’s repair fleet. The fleet is one of three strategically located across the Great Lakes, providing a flexible, rapid response for maintenance at United States harbors and along the nation’s shorelines.

(April 22, 2022) – Earth Day provides an opportunity for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District to reflect on its efforts to preserve natural resources and the environment, for future generations to enjoy. It also provides an opportunity to reflect on the initiatives to create sustainable and environmentally friendly infrastructure across the district.
  • Chicago Harbor Lock and Dam welcomes back Ellie

    The Chicago District was proud to welcome back Ellie to her fifth season of protecting the Chicago Harbor Lock and Dam. Ellie is an 8 year old Border Collie, known as the Bird Disbursal Specialist, she divides her time between USACE’s Chicago Harbor Lock and Dam in Chicago, Illinois and Robert S. Kerr Lock and Dam 15 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. She stays at the property 24 hours a day, and is a diligent, good-natured companion to the staff. Ask any of her coworkers and they will tell you that this arrangement has been the very best - Five seasons and still going strong.
  • Corps recreation sites host Earth Day celebration events

    In recognition of Earth Day, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District will host events at several reservoirs across its multistate region. We invite the public to join us as we clean up the environment, plant trees and restore local ecosystems to support the earth for years to come.
