Marker highlights historical relevance of navigation lock
This is the coffer dam at the Lock 2 “Becks Ripple” location on the Cumberland River in Nashville, Tennessee, Aug. 31, 1891. Excavation at the site would reveal that suitable bedrock foundation at “Becks Ripple” did not exist at a consistent depth, which led to the selection of a new site location 1.5 miles downstream. The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in exempted or excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
