Sections of bio acoustic fish fence submerged at Barkley Lock
Fish Guidance Systems crew installs a section of the bio acoustic fish fence into the water Oct. 9, 2019 below Barkley Lock in Grand Rivers, Ky. The BAFF is expected to be operational in a few weeks, and a field trial is set to test the effectiveness. The project involves multiple agencies and partners, including U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, U.S. Geological Survey and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in exempted or excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
