ALCOSAN Partnership Agreement
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District signed a partnership agreement with the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN) to authorize funding for construction of a grit chamber along Spring Garden Run, a neighborhood located in the northern area of Pittsburgh. The grit chamber construction is estimated to cost approximately $4.3 million, expected to finish by the end of 2024. Once implemented, the chamber will remove 200,000 pounds of grit and sediment annually from the sewer system that causes long-term damage to treatment facilities.
