LRD Commander Maj. Gen. Robert F. Whittle, Jr., visits Markland Locks and Dam
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes and Ohio River Division Commander Maj. Gen. Robert F. Whittle, Jr., visited Markland Locks and Dam on the Ohio River in Warsaw, Kentucky, today to tour the facility and recognize exceptional project staff for their efforts. Markland Locks and Dam staff work 24/7, 365-days a year, to operate the project, which passes more than 40 million tons of commerce annually, making Markland Locks and Dam a vital link in the inland waterways system.

The most recent appropriations for the Department of War expired at 11:59 p.m. EST on September 30, 2025. Military personnel will continue in a normal duty status without pay until such time as a continuing resolution or appropriations are passed by Congress and signed into law. Civilian personnel not engaged in exempted or excepted activities will be placed in a non-work, non-pay status.
