Project Description and Background
Manitowoc Harbor is authorized as deep draft commercial but its primary use is as a shallow draft recreational. This dredging assessment and Material Management Plan is designed to provide allocation of 20 years storage.
The Bay includes approximately 6,000 feet of maintained federal channel and more than 2,700 feet of piers and revetments. Dredged material is placed in the Manitowoc Confined Disposal Facility (CDF).
Current Status
Planned work includes operation and maintenance of existing structures, including breakwater repair, and development of Dredged Material Management Plan (DMMP).
Sediment sampling is scheduled for Spring 2023 to maximize potential for beneficial re-use of dredged material.
Project Authorization
Rivers and Harbors Acts of 1907, 1935, 1937, 1960, 1962 and 1968.
