  • Mount Morris Dam & Recreation Area Welcomes Visitors for 2024 Season

    The William B. Hoyt II Visitor Center at the Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area opens to the public Wednesday, May 1 for its 2024 visitor season. Located on the Genesee River next to Letchworth State Park, the dam provides flood protection to downstream communities, including the City of Rochester, as well as a place to enjoy nature and outdoor recreation for the 72nd year.
  • Corps of Engineers announces updates to Center Hill Water Control Manual

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 24, 2024) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District completed an Environmental Assessment (EA), under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), to update the Center Hill Dam and Reservoir Water Control Manual. As a result of this update, the Nashville District is implementing operational changes at Center Hill.
  • USACE announces campground and day use fee increase in Green River Area

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District announces that recreation day use fees and camping fees will increase at select sites for the 2024 recreation season at the following lakes in the Green River Area, which includes Green River Lake in Campbellsville, Barren River Lake in Glasgow, Rough River Lake in Falls of Rough, and Nolin River Lake in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky.
  • Mount Morris Dam Visitor Center Open for Total Solar Eclipse Weekend

    The Mount Morris Dam and Recreation Area Visitor Center will open early for visitors to watch the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse and enjoy eclipse weekend in Western New York. The Mount Morris Dam is in the “path of totality,” offering visitors an incredible location to view this historic event on Monday, April 8, and enjoy eclipse-themed tours inside the dam on the Saturday and Sunday before.
  • 2024 Black Rock Lock Operations Schedule Announced

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District is announcing the Black Rock Lock operations schedule for the 2024 navigation season. The Black Rock Lock is one of three lock systems operated and maintained by USACE on the U.S. side of the Great Lakes and allows boats to bypass the rapids and fast currents of the Niagara River at the outlet of Lake Erie. More than 2,300 vessels and 94,000 metric tons of commerce passed through the lock in fiscal year 2023.
  • Army Corps of Engineers waives day use fees at recreation areas in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

    WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,850 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 15. The waiver covers fees for boat launch ramps and swimming beaches. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities (group picnic shelters) and events. Other agencies that manage recreation areas on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to offer the waiver in the areas that they manage.
  • Soo Locks Visitor Center closes for 2023 season

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closes the Soo Locks Visitor Center in Canal Park at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 for the 2023 season. Visitor Center hours for the remainder of Oct. are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. The park is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily for the month of October and will transition to winter hours (9 a.m. to 6 p.m.) on Nov. 1. “The Visitor Center offered several new exhibits this summer to include a new interactive photo table, panels highlighting careers and workers at the Soo Locks and new rugs that show the existing and future Soo Locks facility,” Chief Park Ranger Michelle Briggs said. “We listen to our visitors and create exhibits that reflect their interests.”
  • Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center celebrates 50 years

    DULUTH, Minn. – The Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center in Duluth, Minnesota celebrates 50 years with an event Thursday, September 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center and the Lake Superior Marine Museum Association will host a celebration with refreshments, a look back at the history of the Visitor Center including photos, old park ranger uniforms and some rarely-before-seen artifacts from the collection.
  • NR 23-36: Cordell Hull Lake uses partnership grant to improve Bear Waller Gap Trail

    CARTHAGE, Tenn. (Sept. 25, 2023) – Cordell Hull Lake recently received a Handshake Partnership Grant in partnership with Smith County Rescue Squad to make improvements to Bear Waller Gap Trail in Defeated, Tennessee.
  • NR 23-24: Lake Cumberland’s Lakeview Boat Ramp, parking lot closed

    SOMERSET, Ky. (July 26, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces the temporary closure of the Lakeview Boat Ramp and parking lot at Lake Cumberland until further notice.
