  • Regional Business Director Phil Johnson inducted to Senior Executive Service

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Great Lakes and Ohio River Division, inducted Regional Business Director Phil Johnson to the Senior Executive Service during a ceremony Jan. 30 at division headquarters in Cincinnati. Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, 55th chief of engineers and USACE commanding general, presided over the ceremony and recognized Johnson on this achievement.
  • Corps increases operational activity at Shallow Land Disposal Area

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Pittsburgh District announces an increase in operational activity at the Shallow Land Disposal Area (SLDA) in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. During the next few months, residents near the SLDA site will see increased site workers, equipment, signage and maintenance. In addition, site workers will perform infrastructure maintenance such as repairing fencing and drainage ways, clearing trees and brush from between the fences, and removing aged solar panels.
  • Water Resources Development Act of 2022 authorizes Pittsburgh District additional projects for civil works and studies to benefit water infrastructure

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District received new and increased authorizations to support water infrastructure and civil works projects within its 26,000 square-mile region with the approval of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2022, signed into law by President Joe Biden.
  • Corps to host third annual Eagle Fest at Shenango River Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District, in partnership with the Shenango River Watchers, will host the third annual Eagle Fest at Shenango River Lake, Jan. 7. Community members are invited to attend at the Chestnut Run Swim Beach at 500 Saranac Drive (SRSR 846), Transfer, PA 16150. The event will start at 9 a.m. with a presentation by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
  • Corps to Temporarily Close Damsite Parking Area at Woodcock Creek Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District announced today that it will temporarily close the damsite parking area at Woodcock Creek Lake for necessary maintenance work, beginning Monday, Nov. 7.
  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees and invites volunteers to participate in National Public Lands Day, Sept. 24

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that it will waive day-use fees typically charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day (NPLD) on Saturday, Sept. 24.
  • Mosquito Creek Lake seeks public input on master plan revisions

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District seeks community feedback regarding proposed changes to the Mosquito Creek Lake Master Plan and will host a 30-day public comment period from May 16 to June 15. The master plan update is modeled on previously collected-community feedback. It will affect the future management of the recreational activities and natural resource use at Mosquito Creek Lake for the next 25 years.
  • Corps completes CERCLA five-year review at SLDA

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District, in partnership with the Buffalo District, completed a five-year review of the selected remedy for the Shallow Land Disposal Area (SLDA) Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) site per the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA).
  • Corps recreation sites host Earth Day celebration events

    In recognition of Earth Day, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District will host events at several reservoirs across its multistate region. We invite the public to join us as we clean up the environment, plant trees and restore local ecosystems to support the earth for years to come.

    Due to ice chunks from a recent high-water event along Tionesta Creek, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is temporarily closing the Kellettville recreation area at Tionesta Lake.
