Lee County, Virginia and regional planning officials requested a study of wastewater infrastructure under the Section 219 Environmental Infrastructure program. This regional infrastructure project, seated in Lee County, Virginia, adjoins the Tennessee counties of Hancock and Claiborne, and the Kentucky counties of Harlan and Bell. The project will provide wastewater service to hundreds of households and over 1,000 residents. The regional project would also provide the basis for expansion of Lincoln Memorial University, which is an integral driver of the region’s economy. The project will allow for residential growth and economic development of one of the most economically distressed regions in the United States.
