USACE announces new management of Moutardier Recreation Area at Nolin River Lake

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District announces new management of the Moutardier Recreation Area at Nolin River Lake near Leitchfield, Kentucky. Effective Sept. 1, 2026, Moutardier Day Use Area will be managed under a lease agreement with Moutardier, LLC. Effective Nov. 1, 2026, Moutardier Campground and associated campground facilities, including the fishing pier, parking lot and boat ramp, will also be managed by Moutardier, LLC, who will oversee day-to-day operations and reservation services.

Downstream stages on the Wabash River crested on Sunday, following the heavy rainfall last week, and have continued to decline.

USACE Chicago District announces minimum water releases at JE Roush, Salamonie, and Mississinewa Lakes

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Chicago District, is adjusting operations at JE Roush, Salamonie, and Mississinewa Lakes due to recent heavy rainfall during the preceding week. As reported by the Ohio River Forecasting Center, between 3 and 10 inches fell across the Upper Wabash, with larger amounts having fallen along the most downstream limits of the basin. Up to an additional inch of rainfall is anticipated over the weekend, with the potential for localized areas of heavier rainfall. Based on current forecasts, the water level of the Wabash River, as measured at the USGS streamgage located at Lafayette, is forecasted to crest just below moderate flood stage the afternoon of 16 August 2026.

Corps of Engineers issues Enbridge Energy permit for regulated activities proposed for the Line 5 Tunnel project, releases Record of Decision

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Detroit District, issued an individual permit to Enbridge Energy, Limited Partnership (Enbridge), for regulated activities associated with its proposed Line 5 Tunnel project August 12. Enbridge’s project involves construction of a tunnel underneath approximately four miles of lakebed to house a replacement segment of the Line 5 pipeline. Largest Great Lakes Dredging Operation Starting Fall 2026

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District and its contractor Michigan-based Ryba Marine Construction Company will begin the largest dredging operation on the Great Lakes this fall. This year’s dredging of Toledo Harbor’s federal navigation channel – which requires the largest quantity of material to be dredged from any Great Lakes harbor – is part of a two-year contract totaling $11.1 million, and ensures accessible depths for large vessels, the continued flow of commodities across the Great Lakes, and the economic viability of United States waterways.

Record of Decision Released for Former Superior Steel Corporation Site

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District completed and has published the Record of Decision for the Former Superior Steel Site located at 500 Superior Street, Scott Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, approximately five miles southwest of downtown Pittsburgh. USACE, as lead agency under the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, determined that no action is necessary at the Superior Steel Site to protect human health and the environment from FUSRAP materials.

Rockland Recreation Area Boat Launching Ramp improvements begin Aug. 16

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has announced temporary closures for the Rockland Recreation Day Use Area boat ramp on Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, Tennessee, due to parking lot repaving. As part of ongoing December 2023 tornado recovery efforts, the boat ramp and parking facilities will be closed to all traffic from August 16–21 and again from August 23–24, 2026. Boaters are encouraged to utilize nearby alternative access points, including Walton Ferry, Mallard Point, and Sanders Ferry Park, while crews safely mill, pave, and stripe the lot.
