The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Chicago District, has adjusted operations at JE Roush, Salamonie, and Mississinewa Lakes due to heavy rainfall causing high river stages downstream.
Effective 14 August 2026, USACE has been maintaining minimum releases from the three dams and been monitoring conditions at the dams and on the Wabash and tributary rivers over the weekend. Reevaluation on 17 August 2026 determined that minimum releases from the projects shall be maintained until it is safe to begin increasing outflows from the projects. The outflows shall be reevaluated throughout the week. Once it is safe to do so, Outflows from JE Roush will be increased, followed by Salamonie and Mississinewa as downstream conditions allow. These actions are necessary to manage stages downstream and return the lakes to their normal summer level.
The reservoirs and dams are operating as designed. This is a planned and controlled operational adjustment based on current conditions.
