USACE announces new management of select day-use areas in Green River Area

Louisville District
Published Dec. 4, 2024

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District announces new management of day-use areas at select sites for the 2025 recreation season at the following lakes in the Green River Area, which includes Green River Lake in Campbellsville, Barren River Lake in Glasgow and Nolin River Lake in Mammoth Cave, Kentucky.

USACE is committed to creating a sustainable recreation program and providing a high-quality recreation experience for lake visitors. As part of that effort, the Louisville District is continually evaluating how to best deliver an enduring recreation program despite rising supply/service costs and constrained budgets. This includes optimizing project operations through utilizing volunteers and pursuing public/private partnerships.

The Louisville District is partnering with local businesses to help transition management responsibilities of select day-use areas.

“Leasing these select day-use areas will allow us to improve the level of service at our USACE-managed recreation areas. For example, it will allow for additional cleaning, mowing, and maintenance of our managed areas,” said Mark Klimaszewski, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District Acting Operations Division Chief. “USACE is unable to always give the public the level of service, or the types of recreational opportunities, that they desire, so we are trying to find ways to meet those goals through the use of public-private partnerships. Our main objective is to ensure we can continue providing clean, safe, family-friendly recreational amenities for the American public for years to come. We are committed to making this change as seamless as possible for our visitors and look forward to a great 2025 recreation season.”

Effective Jan. 1, 2025, the following day-use areas will be managed by the local business listed:
