The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that the Right Bank Tailwater Recreation Area, located below Cordell Hull Dam, closes in mid-October 2025 for a construction project to stabilize the rock bluff in the area.

(Sept. 23, 2025) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces that the Right Bank Tailwater Recreation Area, located below Cordell Hull Dam, will close in mid-October 2025 for a construction project to stabilize the rock bluff in the area.

The closure will begin at the end of the Turkey Creek Nature Trail parking lot near the Cordell Hull Lake Resource Manager’s Office. Affected amenities include:

  • The restroom closest to the dam
  • The parking area overlooking the lock and dam
  • Land-based tailwater fishing and recreational access

The project will remove loose or severely eroded rock that poses a potential safety hazard to the public. Construction is expected to be completed by January 2027, but the area may reopen sooner if conditions allow. Other amenities in the Right Bank Tailwater Recreation Area will remain open during construction, including:

  • Walking track
  • Nature trail
  • Volleyball court
  • Tailwater boat ramp
  • Playground
  • Picnic shelter

Public members who have reserved the Tailwater shelter and believe the closure may impact their reservation are encouraged to contact the Resource Manager’s Office at 615-735-1034 for assistance.
