On April 23, 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hosted a Shallow Draft Stakeholder Meeting with both virtual and in-person attendance. This session focused on current priorities for the Great Lakes Navigation System (GLNS), including harbor maintenance, budget allocations, and stakeholder input for FY25 needs.
Nick Zager, Chief of the Operations Division for the Detroit District, led the presentation, highlighting program accomplishments, key maintenance challenges, and asset renewal efforts across the shallow draft network.
Topics addressed included:
- System-wide condition updates for shallow draft harbors
- FY24 funded projects and remaining needs
- Future priorities for harbor dredging and structure repair
