  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers releases Natural Resources Management Strategic Plan

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers today released a Natural Resources Management Strategic Plan that provides a framework for the future of the USACE Natural Resources Management (NRM) program. The plan ensures wise management of public access to USACE lands and waters in a manner that protects all project purposes and mission areas through responsible outdoor recreation, environmental conservation and land use management while partnering with communities to serve the American people.
  • Revised: Corps of Engineers begin 2021 Duluth-Superior Harbor maintenance dredging, Minnesota Point beach nourishment

    DULUTH, Minn., – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is set to begin 2021 maintenance dredging and Minnesota Point beach nourishment the week of Aug. 1, 2021. Cleanup of material placed during 2020 continues. “The contractor may begin mobilizing their equipment as early as July 26 but are more likely to start the week of August 1,” said Duluth Area Office Construction and Survey Chief Corey Weston. The Corps of Engineers awarded the 2021 maintenance dredging contract July 14, 2021 to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, based Roen Salvage Company. The Sturgeon Bay company will dredge 40,000 cubic yards (cy) of material.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to construct fish passage demonstration project in Buffalo

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District, on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, awarded a $1.6 million contract to Bidco Marine Group on June 23, 2021 for a Great Lakes Restoration Initiative fish passage demonstration project along the Niagara River, adjacent to Broderick Park in the City of Buffalo, NY. The emerald shiner is a small prey fish and a critical component of the Niagara River and Lake Erie food web. Hardened shorelines along the Niagara River create high water velocities that strictly limit the ability of emerald shiner to migrate into Lake Erie, posing a threat to populations of these prey fish and the larger fish and wildlife populations that depend on them.
  • Locking temporarily suspended at McAlpine Locks and Dam

    The south (landside) chamber at McAlpine Locks and Dam (Ohio River mile 606.8) in Louisville, Kentucky, is currently closed to traffic due to a navigation accident involving the bridge over the lock chamber approach.
  • USACE Releases Feasibility Study and Proposed Plan for Former Guterl Specialty Steel Site, Virtual Public Meeting to be Conducted

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, completed the Proposed Plan for the Former Guterl Specialty Steel Corporation Site and the Feasibility Study Report, Former Guterl Specialty Steel Corporation.
