    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District has marked a submerged stone wall at the entrance to Shipping Slip 3 to remind boaters of its presence as they transit the Buffalo Outer Harbor.

Dredging of harbors like Erie’s ensures accessible depths for large vessels, the continued flow of commodities across the Great Lakes, and the economic viability of United States waterways.
  • Corps of Engineers Completes Nearly $20 Million in Cleveland Harbor Maintenance

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo District completed $19.5 in maintenance and repairs to Cleveland Harbor in 2023. This year’s work included annual maintenance dredging in the Cuyahoga River and significant repairs to the harbor’s more-than century old breakwater, ensuring safe access for vessels, the flow of commodities across the Great Lakes, and the economic viability of the nation’s waterways.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers & Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation Celebrate First Phase of Construction on Buffalo Outer Harbor Wetland

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District and Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC) celebrated completion of the 2023 construction season’s work on a new wetland ecosystem being built in Buffalo’s Outer Harbor. USACE and its contractor, Michigan-based Ryba Marine Construction Co., placed bedding stone across the mouth of the abandoned Shipping Slip 3, forming the first layer of a submerged breakwater to contain material dredged from the Buffalo River and placed in the slip to create the base of the new ecosystem.

(Oct. 25, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District reminds the public of a previously announced brief drawdown of Old Hickory Lake from late October through late November to assess the condition of the shoreline adjacent to Corps operated recreation areas, as well as perform maintenance in recreation areas.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 11, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces the area below Cordell Hull Dam known as the Right Bank Tailwater Recreation Area is closing today for 90 days while construction work is underway to stabilize the rock bluff below the dam.
  • USACE Hosting Niagara Falls Storage Site Public Information Session

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District will host a public information session on Oct. 17, 2023 to provide project updates for the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program, Niagara Falls Storage Site project, located in Lewiston, N.Y. This event will provide the public with an opportunity to engage with the Corps of Engineers' Integrated Technical Office staff to gain a deeper understanding of the status of ongoing and future activities at the site. This meeting will be recorded, and a video will be posted to the project information website for anyone who cannot attend.
