USACE initiates reevaluation of design for portion of Section 202 Johnson County Flood Risk Management Project

Louisville District
Published Sept. 12, 2024
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continues to work in close coordination with the Johnson County Fiscal Court on the Section 202 Johnson County Flood Risk Management Project, which is
intended to reduce flood risk for Johnson County, Kentucky.

USACE has temporarily suspended certain activities associated with the currently proposed design along Walnut Avenue and has directed the sponsor to temporarily halt acquisition of property along Walnut Avenue while reevaluation is performed. USACE is in the beginning stages of reevaluating the current design of the south alignment along Walnut Avenue. As part of these efforts, USACE intends to evaluate proposed alternative alignment options that could reduce construction and utility impacts in the area, as well as reduce operations and maintenance costs and challenges for the local sponsor. After reevaluation, if USACE intends to propose an alternative alignment for the south floodwall in the vicinity of Walnut Avenue, USACE will document the proposed revision in an Engineering Documentation Report with integrated Supplemental Environmental Assessment, which will be published for public review and comment.

USACE is committed to keeping the public and our stakeholders informed as this effort continues.
