FY25 President's Budget designates $155 Million for Nashville District Projects

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 21, 2024) – The President’s Budget for fiscal year 2025 includes more than $7.2 billion in discretionary funding for the Civil Works program of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, with just over $152 million set aside for Nashville District Operations and Maintenance projects. 

The Twin Rivers (Tennessee and Cumberland) watershed touches seven states and covers 59,000 square miles. The FY2025 Civil Works budget funds the Nashville District with $152 million for operations and maintenance of the nine multipurpose dams with hydropower and flood control and nineteen navigation locks with 1,175 miles of commercially navigable channels in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Alabama. These locks and dams are among the nation’s top natural and human-constructed resources which annually provide a multibillion-dollar economic impact to a multi-state region.  

In addition to routine operations and maintenance, specific funding includes (but is not limited to):

• Barkley Lock and Dam:  Rehabilitation of spillway gates mechanical/electrical systems and gate chains
• Center Hill Dam:  Water Supply Reallocation Study
• Cheatham Lock and Dam:  Repair of navigation lock filling and emptying valves
• J. Percy Priest Dam:  Update water control manual for compliance with current guidance, cover changes to downstream control flows, minimum flows, and releases from non-traditional hydropower outlets
• Tennessee River: 
  • Kentucky Lock - Repair lock wall armor and damaged concrete
  • Pickwick Landing Lock - Repair Upper Miter Gate
• Wolf Creek Dam, Lake Cumberland: Supply & install new security system

Projects not funded through the President’s Budget have the potential for funding through the FY24 or FY25 Workplan and Infrastructure Investments and Job Act. FY24 Workplan projects and their funding amounts are scheduled to be released in early summer 2024 with the FY25 Workplan following in summer 2025.
