Corps hosts public meeting, comment period for Mahoning River Basin water control manuals

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is hosting a public meeting and public comment period to collect feedback on proposed updates to the water control manuals for Berlin Lake, Michael J. Kirwan Dam and Reservoir, and Mosquito Creek Lake within the Mahoning River Basin.

PITTSBURGH – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is hosting a public meeting and public comment period to collect feedback on proposed updates to the water control manuals for Berlin Lake, Michael J. Kirwan Dam and Reservoir, and Mosquito Creek Lake within the Mahoning River Basin.

WHO: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District.

WHAT: Water control manuals are approved by congress and outline the operational requirements for corps-owned flood-control reservoirs such as release levels and drought contingencies. The district is evaluating potential updates to the Berlin Lake, Michael J. Kirwan Dam and Reservoir, and Mosquito Creek Lake water control manuals. The corps is hosting a public meeting and public comment period to gather community input on the proposed updates.

Drafts of the Engineering Report, Environmental Assessment, and Finding of No Significant Impact for the revised manuals are available electronically at https://www.lrp.usace.army.mil/Missions/Planning-Programs-Project-Management/.

WHEN: The comment period is currently open and will close on May 19. All submissions received before May 19 will be considered. Comments can be submitted by email to lrp.plan.enviro@usace.army.mil or by mail to:

WHERE: The corps will host an informational public meeting on Tuesday, May 3 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. in the Stambaugh Auditorium at 1000 5th Ave, Youngstown, OH 44504. The meeting can also be accessed virtually at:

Comments about the proposed changes can be submitted during the meeting. A recording of the meeting will be available online the next day at https://www.lrp.usace.army.mil/Missions/Planning-Programs-Project-Management/
