Conemaugh & Loyalhanna
April Richards, a park ranger for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District, looks downstream from her favorite spot above the Conemaugh River Lake dam in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania, Oct. 22, 2021. Richards said this spot provides a perfect picture of history where she can stand on a dam completed in 1952 and look at a series of bridges and structures dating back to 1864 in a single line of sight. The Conemaugh River Lake and the Loyalhanna Lake dams, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District, are located within eight miles of each other in Saltsburg, Pennsylvania. Their reservoirs flow downstream to join and form the Kiskiminetas River, which leads into the Allegheny River. The two dams are partners in providing navigation and reducing flood damage across the Pittsburgh region. (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District photo by Michel Sauret)
