ALCOSAN Partnership Agreement
Rich Fitzgerald, Allegheny County executive, shakes hands with Michelle Buys, the director of Environmental Compliance for Allegheny County Sanitary Authority (ALCOSAN), after a Public Partnership Agreement signing with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District in Pittsburgh, Jan. 11, 2023. The two organizations signed an agreement to authorize funding for construction of a grit chamber along Spring Garden Run, a neighborhood located in the northern area of Pittsburgh. The grit chamber construction is estimated to cost approximately $4.3 million and expected to finish by the end of 2024. Once implemented, the chamber will remove 200,000 pounds of grit and sediment annually from the sewer system that causes long-term damage to treatment facilities.
