NAS Grosse Ile

The former Grosse Ile Naval Air Station (NIKE D-51) - Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) is located in Grosse Ile Township, in Wayne County, Michigan, on the southern end of Grosse Ile. The island is 8 miles long and 2 miles wide and located on the Detroit River approximately 14 miles downriver from the central business district of Detroit, at the mouth of the Detroit River as it flows into Lake Erie. The former Naval Air Station Grosse Ile is also referred to as FUDS E05MI0123. The site is currently occupied by the Grosse Ile Commerce Park and Municipal Airport. Land use at the site is nonresidential.

Brandon Road Interbasin Project

Wilkins Air Force Station (AFS)

The former Wilkins AFS is a Formerly Used Defense Site property located at the north end of the city of Shelby, Richland County, Ohio. The former Wilkins AFS consisted of 486 acres; it was acquired by the United States Army Air Force in 1943 and used as a storage depot until 1961. The site is currently an industrial complex and an educational facility. The Department of Defense operated the approximately 486-acre Wilkins AFS as a storage depot from 1943 to 1961.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is working with local partners on a major project called the Chicago Area Waterways System Restoration and Recreation (CAWSRR) Study. Our goal is to improve aquatic habitat within the Chicago and Calumet rivers and increase public access and recreation opportunities along these river corridors. The CAWSRR Study builds upon decades of work by community, local, county, state, and federal partners that have significantly improved river conditions. However, aquatic habitat is still limited along these river corridors and restoration is necessary to sustain healthy aquatic communities.
