Detroit Lead Line removal, Section 219 Environmental Assessment for Review and Comment

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, provides notice of the availability of an Environmental Assessment (EA) for review and comment. The EA addresses the environmental effects of disconnecting up to 5,000 lead service lines on vacant parcels formerly serviced by the public water distribution system now servicing Detroit residents in Wayne County, Michigan. The EA includes a preliminary Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) which includes an evaluation of the anticipated effects from project implementation. The preliminary FONSI reflects the conclusions of the EA that the project does not have a significant effect on the quality of the human environment; therefore, we anticipate that an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is not required. This project is authorized under Section 219 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1992, Public Law 102-580, as amended.
