Detroit District team recently conducted bridge inspections
As part of their Bridge Safety program, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District team recently conducted bridge inspections in Charlevoix, Michigan and Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. The team provides structural inspection of bridges to assess safety, condition and recommend any necessary repairs or improvements. Charlevoix Harbor has experienced significant wave activity, which caused a panel on the bridge to fail. Our team made field observations and are now evaluating solutions to address the issue. The team also inspected the utility bridge to the power plant at the Soo Area Office. The bridge is over 60 years old, at the end of its service life, and is in great need of replacement, which is planned as a part of the New Lock Chamber phase of the New Soo Lock project.
